Vendor Spotlight of the Week - Henry Connor Bost House

Henry Connor Bost House is a property that once visited, nothing compares. Located only 6 miles from Salisbury and built in 1869, Henry Connor Bost House has been a family owned property since 1961, which they used as a vacation home. In 1993, the property was carefully renovated by Dr. and Mrs. Donald Lomax in order to move to the farm permanently, but the original heart pine floors, original woodwork, brickwork, and even some original glass in the windows still remain. With one parent deceased and the other in assisted living, Laurie, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lomax, decided to turn it into a venue about 2.5 years ago, which she partially manages along with her brothers and sisters. With 135 acres of land, this fully renovated land is private and protected by the Land Trust of Central NC, so the land can never be developed which allows it to always be a historic farm. It is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Henry Connor was an officer in the civil war, and this is one of the few houses that was built after the civil war in the area. There was a road that cut through the Old Mocksville trading path that would take you from Mocksville NC to Salisbury NC for trading of furs, meats, and other goods. Daniel Boone walked this trail, and American Indian settlement is on the property as well.

Laurie, Owner and Venue Manager, says they are lucky to have the nicest brides you have ever met. One that stands out to her the most is when they hosted a couple England, and family traveled the 4,000 miles for the wedding there.

Laurie has Debbie there to help her with sales and marketing as Debbie does a lot of the venue tours. They also have caretakers who they could not function without as they handle all the farm maintenance. Laurie herself is a very “people driven” person and genuinely loves getting to be a part of a couple’s first big journey together of becoming husband & wife.

Henry Connor Bost House only hosts one wedding a weekend so their entire focus is on that couple and their guests. Many wedding parties even stay in the authentic historic farm. When not utilized for weddings, this property is also used for fundraisers, baby showers, and Airbnb rentals.

There are five main qualities this venue’s team looks for in their preferred vendors: Professionalism, friendliness, easy-going personalities, efficiency, and accommodation. Laurie is proud to say all of her brides say she has amazing vendor partners, and SSS is thankful to be a part of that partnership!

What is in the future for this one of a kind rental space? Laurie says, “Continue doing what we do and growing the business a little each year.” They strive to continue making their brides and grooms happy by being a flexible venue. Whether it is switching up ceremony spot or where decorations can be, they do their best to bring the bride’s vision to life by not setting limitations. Our SSS team always enjoys being a part of special days at this property, and we hope to continue this great working relationship for years to come!

It has happened! Split Second Sound has officially also expanded to Asheville NC full time while still holdin' it down in The Queen City, Charlotte NC! Two cities, same incredible product, and even more unforgettable parties!! Being a part of many weddings in the beautiful city of Asheville as well as providing entertainment for many members of the Biltmore family members’ weddings, expanding to this city has always been a goal of Split Second Sound’s. We wanted that same dedication, organization, and of course fun for our next city and found that when Chris Bower came along. Chris is originally from Florida but moved to Asheville in early 2018. After getting to know his extensive DJ background, his loving family, and his drive to make a difference with his work,...

DJ Spotlight of the Week - Mike Glass

Mike Glass comes to us at SSS for many years, but has always been involved with music since he was a young boy. He grew up playing the piano and saxophone from elementary to high school, but eventually his brother started a DJ group and he tagged along. He DJ’d his way through high school and college and does not plan on stopping anytime soon. Why give up on such a unique talent that you have such a passion for?! When Mike moved to Charlotte as a teacher, he took a 10K pay cut. He was looking for a way to make extra money and returning to his DJ roots seemed like the best route. Mike says, “I was fortunate enough to respond to an ad and had an opportunity to interview with Vinny. What stuck out to me was the sense of family he portrayed. DJs were sticking with Split for 10 years and beyond. With the crazy egos we DJs can have, you have to be a good person to keep people around that long.” Mike’s flexibility makes him stand out within our company. Mike says, “You can find...

DJ Feature - Joey Verde

He is one of the original four DJs for Split Second Sound. He is in our Elite Series as one of the most requested & reviewed DJs in the company. He speaks Italian fluently and has been a part of many weddings for the same family. He is none other than Long Island native, Joey Verde. Joey’s love for music has been in his system his whole life, but the love turned into a passion when he was 15 years old. While visiting family in Italy, his uncle and a few of his friends started a local radio station. When Joey saw it all in action, he thought it was the coolest thing ever, so his uncle put him on air asking about his visit. The following day, Joey was back to watch the others. On the third day, the DJ on air was smoking a cigarette outside, and the song was about to end, so Joey stepped in to play the next song. One song led to a second and so on. After the fifth day, they decided to put Joey on air as the DJ everyday between 11AM and 1:30PM playing Italian songs along with his A...
