Vendor Spotlight of the Week - Henry Connor Bost House

Henry Connor Bost House is a property that once visited, nothing compares. Located only 6 miles from Salisbury and built in 1869, Henry Connor Bost House has been a family owned property since 1961, which they used as a vacation home. In 1993, the property was carefully renovated by Dr. and Mrs. Donald Lomax in order to move to the farm permanently, but the original heart pine floors, original woodwork, brickwork, and even some original glass in the windows still remain. With one parent deceased and the other in assisted living, Laurie, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lomax, decided to turn it into a venue about 2.5 years ago, which she partially manages along with her brothers and sisters. With 135 acres of land, this fully renovated land is private and protected by the Land Trust of Central NC, so the land can never be developed which allows it to always be a historic farm. It is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Henry Connor was an officer in the civil war, and this is one of the few houses that was built after the civil war in the area. There was a road that cut through the Old Mocksville trading path that would take you from Mocksville NC to Salisbury NC for trading of furs, meats, and other goods. Daniel Boone walked this trail, and American Indian settlement is on the property as well.

Laurie, Owner and Venue Manager, says they are lucky to have the nicest brides you have ever met. One that stands out to her the most is when they hosted a couple England, and family traveled the 4,000 miles for the wedding there.

Laurie has Debbie there to help her with sales and marketing as Debbie does a lot of the venue tours. They also have caretakers who they could not function without as they handle all the farm maintenance. Laurie herself is a very “people driven” person and genuinely loves getting to be a part of a couple’s first big journey together of becoming husband & wife.

Henry Connor Bost House only hosts one wedding a weekend so their entire focus is on that couple and their guests. Many wedding parties even stay in the authentic historic farm. When not utilized for weddings, this property is also used for fundraisers, baby showers, and Airbnb rentals.

There are five main qualities this venue’s team looks for in their preferred vendors: Professionalism, friendliness, easy-going personalities, efficiency, and accommodation. Laurie is proud to say all of her brides say she has amazing vendor partners, and SSS is thankful to be a part of that partnership!

What is in the future for this one of a kind rental space? Laurie says, “Continue doing what we do and growing the business a little each year.” They strive to continue making their brides and grooms happy by being a flexible venue. Whether it is switching up ceremony spot or where decorations can be, they do their best to bring the bride’s vision to life by not setting limitations. Our SSS team always enjoys being a part of special days at this property, and we hope to continue this great working relationship for years to come!

DJ Feature - Chris Pounds

While all of SSS MC/DJs are exclusive, Chris Pounds is also our full-time DJ, so we are sure you have seen his face around at many of our events! When first moving to Charlotte, he DJ’d at the same club every Friday for 3 months knowing every song that would be played after the next, after the next. That situation was not allowing Chris to take his craft to the next limit, which led him to inquiring with Split Second. Although his mixing was top notch, he still completed our training process to learn how to run a wedding, master his coordination & interaction, and truly learn the SSS way and understand the SSS brand. Chris’ love for spinning started at a gymnasium party 30 years ago. He saw a friend on the turntables, began learning the fundamentals of spinning & creating music, and started his official DJ career in his early 20s. He puts high emphasis on himself on how to not just get guests on the dance floor, but keep them there all night. He pushes himself to entertain by
