DJ Spotlight of the Week - Mike Glass

Mike Glass comes to us at SSS for many years, but has always been involved with music since he was a young boy. He grew up playing the piano and saxophone from elementary to high school, but eventually his brother started a DJ group and he tagged along. He DJ’d his way through high school and college and does not plan on stopping anytime soon. Why give up on such a unique talent that you have such a passion for?!

When Mike moved to Charlotte as a teacher, he took a 10K pay cut. He was looking for a way to make extra money and returning to his DJ roots seemed like the best route. Mike says, “I was fortunate enough to respond to an ad and had an opportunity to interview with Vinny. What stuck out to me was the sense of family he portrayed. DJs were sticking with Split for 10 years and beyond. With the crazy egos we DJs can have, you have to be a good person to keep people around that long.”

Mike’s flexibility makes him stand out within our company. Mike says, “You can find me rocking a crowd at Bank of America Stadium or motivating your kids at a block party. Either way, I am bringing the energy Split is known for.” Mike has the right temperament for being in this industry. Being a teacher, he understands how to work with different personalities and how to connect with people of all personalities.

Mike looks up to his dad and brother because they have set wonderful examples for him to strive for. Mike’s top core values are integrity, value, and creativity. He considers himself very blessed in life! People that know Mike appreciate how humble and dependable he is. On the flip side, Mike’s impulsiveness has been known to drive people crazy at times but we look at that as a positive too as he is always down for any type of event we have.

Mike uses his background as a teacher to create unique lesson plans for each wedding. He does his homework and finds out what truly would make the bride and groom happy by meeting with them and discussing all the details of their day. After all, the bride and groom being happy at the end of the day is the most important ingredient to a successful night. He always looks forward to each event, the people he will get to interact with, and he loves the diversity of jobs he gets at SSS. He says, “You never know who you are going to meet or where you will get to go.” Mike has provided DJ entertainment for hundreds of weddings, corporate events, parties, and mitzvahs for us. You can also find him at BofA stadium representing SSS for the Panthers on Game Days and during the PGA Tournament every year!

DJ Feature - Chris Pounds

While all of SSS MC/DJs are exclusive, Chris Pounds is also our full-time DJ, so we are sure you have seen his face around at many of our events! When first moving to Charlotte, he DJ’d at the same club every Friday for 3 months knowing every song that would be played after the next, after the next. That situation was not allowing Chris to take his craft to the next limit, which led him to inquiring with Split Second. Although his mixing was top notch, he still completed our training process to learn how to run a wedding, master his coordination & interaction, and truly learn the SSS way and understand the SSS brand. Chris’ love for spinning started at a gymnasium party 30 years ago. He saw a friend on the turntables, began learning the fundamentals of spinning & creating music, and started his official DJ career in his early 20s. He puts high emphasis on himself on how to not just get guests on the dance floor, but keep them there all night. He pushes himself to entertain by

DJ Spotlight of the Week- Derek Andreas

Let’s shine the spotlight on Derek this week! Derek started DJing at the young age of 15 years old when he took over a friend’s family DJ business. Through going to gigs with them, he fell in love with music. Derek met Vinny while running in a 10K that he was DJing. At first, Vinny did not have a spot for Derek within the company, but Derek was very determined to join the SSS Family and did not give up. He actually showed up at Vinny’s house to play for him and to be considered as a SSS DJ. After seeing his skills and attention to detail, Vinny knew he had to give him a shot. He went through our extensive training process like all DJs with us, and now Derek has been with us for eleven years. He contributes his success in this industry and with Split Second Sound to the dedication of our DJs and the drive to get better at every single event. When asked what characteristics make him stand out as a DJ, Derek said, “I believe in being extremely prepared at each event. I wa
