DJ Feature - Joey Verde


He is one of the original four DJs for Split Second Sound. He is in our Elite Series as one of the most requested & reviewed DJs in the company. He speaks Italian fluently and has been a part of many weddings for the same family. He is none other than Long Island native, Joey Verde.

Joey’s love for music has been in his system his whole life, but the love turned into a passion when he was 15 years old. While visiting family in Italy, his uncle and a few of his friends started a local radio station. When Joey saw it all in action, he thought it was the coolest thing ever, so his uncle put him on air asking about his visit. The following day, Joey was back to watch the others. On the third day, the DJ on air was smoking a cigarette outside, and the song was about to end, so Joey stepped in to play the next song. One song led to a second and so on. After the fifth day, they decided to put Joey on air as the DJ everyday between 11AM and 1:30PM playing Italian songs along with his American tapes. From that job forward, Joey has remained in the music business.

After over 15 years with SSS, Joey believes what has allowed him to last as long as he has is because he truly cares about what he does. He still gets nervous and wants to make sure everything is perfect before and on wedding days. He believes all the details need to be covered, so the vision or dream the bride has becomes a reality. Joey says, “Being with SSS from almost the beginning as one of the original four members and then seeing where it is today is very satisfying.” Joey is one of the most organized and detail-oriented DJs we have. He is not afraid to take charge and step up as a coordinator when one is not present while also being the MC/DJ.

His ideal A-Team of vendors are ones that are experienced and ready to work hard. For him, it is about working together as a team and not just worrying about your own area of expertise. When all vendors know what it truly takes on everyone's part to make it a memorable event, all parts of the wedding will fall into place as planned.

Family is everything in the Italian culture, so Joey’s dad being who he looks up to the most is no surprise. Joey says he set the example for him and his siblings and is always there for them no matter what. At a very young age, his dad taught him that whatever you do, always do your best. Joey says, “Your name and reputation are very important. Being honest, trustworthy, and hardworking should always be automatic.” Joey considers himself extremely lucky in life due to his loving wife and two healthy and happy boys. “They are the reason why I work so hard, and I love spending all my free time with them,” Joey says.

For him, the three qualities that mean the most in the work field are adaptability, dedication, and reliability. Joey prides himself on trying to cater to exactly what his bride and groom for that day are looking for whether it is music selection, flow, or atmosphere. When he is approached at a wedding from guests or the couple, hearing how much they enjoyed themselves is his favorite part of being a SSS DJ.

Joey says, “In SSS, what we all do is a reflection on each other. I hope the example I have set for the younger and newer DJs helps our company continue to grow.” Dependability and longevity are two very common words we hear when describing Split Second Sound, and DJs like Joey Verde allow us to have that reputation. DJ Spotlight of the Week- Derek Andreas

Let’s shine the spotlight on Derek this week! Derek started DJing at the young age of 15 years old when he took over a friend’s family DJ business. Through going to gigs with them, he fell in love with music. Derek met Vinny while running in a 10K that he was DJing. At first, Vinny did not have a spot for Derek within the company, but Derek was very determined to join the SSS Family and did not give up. He actually showed up at Vinny’s house to play for him and to be considered as a SSS DJ. After seeing his skills and attention to detail, Vinny knew he had to give him a shot.
