Vendor Spotlight of the Week - Mint Museum Uptown

As one of the most recognized icons in Uptown Charlotte, the Mint Museum Uptown is a name all Charlotteans know and love. The convenience to all the major hotels and convention center makes it sought after by many. Their cultural and high image is unmatched whether hosting an event or touring the museum.

Tom Martin serves as the Director of Special Events to oversee all rentals, venue & beverage services, and vendor management marketing. Weddings are the bread and butter of this space due to the very classic, beautiful style that eludes Charlotte history. Between the metal and glass, the contemporary look gives off an urban feel surrounded around all uptown hotels and building.

Aside from weddings, The Mint Museum is also home to many large galas, fashion shows, and corporate events. Tom takes great pride in presenting his space as the excitement of the clients that want to hold their events there is very contagious. As a museum, it is a cultural backdrop that creates a true “marriage of art”. The museum has hosted numerous impactful events, but Tom says hosting the Charlotte Hornets Holiday Party was groundbreaking. They utilized the entire space, had bands and DJs to provide entertainment, and even Michael Jordan was in attendance.

It takes a village to make it all happen, and Tom is one of the most respected in the industry for paying tribute to his team. Over at the original location at the Mint Museum Randolph, Christina Cox is the go-to gal and his main helper at the Uptown location is Heather Swope. With Christina as the Special Events Manager and Heather as the Special Events Coordinator, they are all involved with marketing and all events to work closely with the clients.

The success of the museum is not stopping anytime soon. Tom and his team plan to continue building their high image brand while maximizing sales capability. Their goal is to continue being known as not just a normal ballroom as you can do so much with the space. The diversity that can be achieved allows client expectations to be exceeded.

We work in the most fun industry out there, but Tom’s favorite part has to be investing into making sure all client events run flawlessly. He’s a firm believer that word of mouth does wonders to create the best vendor team environment. It’s all worth it when people get to the 5th floor of the Mint Uptown and are in awe. A day-of coordinator is one of the most important people to this specific venue. Working as the middle-man between what the client hopes for and being able to distribute those needs to the various contractors makes the Coordinator the key inspirations.

Tom says Split Second Sound’s familiarity and understanding of their function space allows their team to not worry about a thing. The levels of steps a vendor has to fulfill and achieve when they are working at the Mint as well as the very high respect for clients and the art means it takes more than just “being great” to be a preferred vendor there. Tom says SSS matches well with The Mint’s ethics, punctuality, and customer service skills. SSS truly treasures our partnership with both location’s teams and is always honored to work alongside them all.

Vendor Spotlight of the Week - Henry Connor Bost House

Henry Connor Bost House is a property that once visited, nothing compares. Located only 6 miles from Salisbury and built in 1869, Henry Connor Bost House has been a family owned property since 1961, which they used as a vacation home. In 1993, the property was carefully renovated by Dr. and Mrs. Donald Lomax in order to move to the farm permanently, but the original heart pine floors, original woodwork, brickwork, and even some original glass in the windows still remain. With one parent deceased and the other in assisted living, Laurie, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lomax, decided to turn it into a venue about 2.5 years ago, which she partially manages along with her brothers and sisters. With 135 acres of land, this fully renovated land is private and protected by the Land Trust of Central NC, so the land can never be developed which allows it to always be a historic farm. It is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Henry Connor was an officer in the civil war,...
