DJ Feature - Chris Pounds

While all of SSS MC/DJs are exclusive, Chris Pounds is also our full-time DJ, so we are sure you have seen his face around at many of our events! When first moving to Charlotte, he DJ’d at the same club every Friday for 3 months knowing every song that would be played after the next, after the next. That situation was not allowing Chris to take his craft to the next limit, which led him to inquiring with Split Second. Although his mixing was top notch, he still completed our training process to learn how to run a wedding, master his coordination & interaction, and truly learn the SSS way and understand the SSS brand.

Chris’ love for spinning started at a gymnasium party 30 years ago. He saw a friend on the turntables, began learning the fundamentals of spinning & creating music, and started his official DJ career in his early 20s. He puts high emphasis on himself on how to not just get guests on the dance floor, but keep them there all night. He pushes himself to entertain by learning different elements and styles of music and admits he is still learning each day, even in his 40’s. Seeing naturally happy expressions and praise keeps him going.

Chris’ personality helps him stand out as a DJ as he never wants to see someone unhappy. If he has the opportunity to bring a smile, that is what does it for him. He reminds us a lot of DJ Jazzy Jeff from Fresh Prince of Bel Air, which he agrees if he could meet any celebrity, it would be him! Listening to Jazzy allows Chris to open his mind to different musicology as Jazzy travels all over the world to expand his knowledge of music.

He considers his “A-Team” of vendors on event day as people that do what he does - Cover all bases. He believes everyone should work together to take part in the whole experience. His definition of hard work comes from thinking outside of the box and your comfort realm. He is a strong contender in helping someone in need no matter what, taking on challenges, and continuously building on your passion.

Core values to Chris include two major factors: Taking care of the client no matter what 120% and respecting both yourself & the client. He believes people dig his thirst to make every wedding the best he has ever done in his life and is always throwing ideas out there no matter how crazy. Chris even has 563,722 songs in his library that he carries with him every day to be sure to have it all.

His versatile look on events and his ability to speak through his music has allowed Chris to already start building his own name within the name of SSS. He eats and breathes DJing for 30 years now and gets to live his dream every day as a full time DJ. Chris says “I am always trying to sell the company, but you cannot sell a personality! It is just who I am!”

Vendor Spotlight of the Week - Lisa Pleasant Events

Split Second Sound has had the opportunity to work alongside some incredible individuals over the years and one of our favorites has to be Lisa Pleasant of Lisa Pleasant Events. Her story is not the typical “just love planning weddings” story. She went to school for Economics, Spanish, and Mathematical Finance and started working on the back end of an algorithmic trading firm after school. Very soon after, she took over a club promotions company that fell into her lap where her natural bubbly personality was showcased, but her true calling came when her brother got engaged. When he asked for her help, she fully dove into the task and loved the challenge and decided to start her own company shortly after. Her love for being a planner starts with the logistics that come with planning as she is a self-proclaimed “math nerd.” Spreadsheets, floor plans, organization, and pulling all of it together are her strengths and make up her passion for what she does. Her math skills on top of being...

Office Feature- Sarah Dyke

This week we are shining our spotlight on our very own West Virginia gal! You all know her, love her, and frequently see her out and about representing our Split Second Sound name! Her creativity, thought, and effort she puts into each one of our events is unmatched! Not only does she work with each bride and groom to ensure they have the perfectly matched DJ and tunes for their wedding day, but she also contributes to the light-hearted fun in the office environment. Sarah, our Brand & Event Manager, has worked at Split Second Sound for almost two years and handles the event planning, sales, branding, and networking. Sarah moved to Charlotte two years ago for a job she ended up hating because she was limited in creativity and had no social interaction. A friend of Sarah’s reached out to Vinny to see if he knew of anyone hiring to get back into the industry she loves, and Vinny set up what was supposed to be a short phone call with him to see what she was about. Sarah says, “V...
