Vendor Spotlight of the Week- Kelly & Co.

Kelly Martin, owner of Kelly & Co, got her start in the wedding industry in 2010, but she has always loved planning and hosting parties. “I had a theme for everything and designed each party down to the very last detail. I got it from my mom. In 2003, I was a marriage and family counselor but after planning my own wedding, I knew I was in the wrong industry. Subsequently, I started my own small business in ATL - BASH Event Planning,” Kelly says. After moving to Charlotte, she became a Lead Planner with Head Over Heels and ended up buying the business as the owner is 2012. This summer Kelly rebranded Head Over Heels to Kelly & Co. With Kelly’s background in counseling, she is a natural at guiding and helping people. She is always your “go-to” person for advice, and she likes to give it even when people do not ask for it! ;)

Kelly enjoys reading, decorating, and spending time with her family in her spare time. She says, “I LOVE decorating (and redecorating) my house. Every season has a different look! I also spend a lot of time with my husband and neighbors just sitting outside, sipping cocktails and chatting while our kids run wild. But I get the most enjoyment from watching my boys at their sporting events.” Her 13-year old just finished his last middle school football game, and her 9-year plays baseball is getting ready to start flag football in a few weeks. Kelly says, “When I am cheering for them in the stands, there is no place I would rather be.”

Kelly’s favorite part about being a planner is the close relationships she develops with the bride and groom and their families. She says, “We work with them so closely and for such long periods of time that they become like family to me. I love watching how their lives unfold after the wedding. So many of my couples have gone on to pursue their dreams of starting businesses, traveling the world, and many of them are now starting families of their own. I feel very proud of them all!”

Kelly and her team provide partial and full-service event planning and design packages. They can also customize a package to meet their clients' particular needs and budget. Kelly & Co has a constantly evolving Preferred Vendor list. They are very particular with who they recommend as the vendors need to be someone they have worked with consistently over the years, whom they know to not only excel in their field but also to be reputable, reliable, professional, fair and team players. “Our personalities do not have to be alike, but we work best with vendors who are fun and easygoing and who trust us to do our job, just as we trust them to do theirs. We say it all the time and we truly mean it. We are nothing without our vendors. It is all about teamwork!” Kelly says.

Kelly & Co always enjoy working with Split Second Sound, and we have been on their preferred list for as long as we can remember. Kelly says, “We always know we are in the hands of professionals from the initial consult in their office to the detailed DJ meetings and finally on the day-of the event. They are super organized and make the planning process a breeze. I also love how they have so many different types of DJ's (all of whom have gone through a very structured training process), which makes them better able to match their DJ to our clients' different personalities, requests and cultures/backgrounds. And they ALWAYS deliver on the day of the event.” Kelly have always exceeded her expectations, which is kind of hard to do according to her!

Kelly always has her couples’ best interests at heart which makes her a strong contender in the event industry. She never makes promises that she cannot deliver, and people appreciate that about her. All of the planners at Kelly & Co have been there for three years or more. They make a great team and work incredibly well together. When we asked Kelly what is the one thing she would communicate to brides on how valuable a wedding planner is she said, “Planning a wedding can be very stressful. The bride often runs into so many differing opinions at every turn, but the bride's wedding planner will always be their biggest advocate and their voice when they feel like they are not being heard. Yes, we are hired for our creativity, knowledge and experience but we are more than just their planners. We are often their family mediators, personal assistants, confidantes, stress relievers and friends!”

We could not be bigger fans of Kelly and her entire team. Not only are they all very fun individuals, but they are true professionals at their careers. Whether it be a wedding, extravagant corporate event, or just a simple good time party, Split Second Sound always considers it an honor to work with this team.

DJ Feature - Chris Pounds

While all of SSS MC/DJs are exclusive, Chris Pounds is also our full-time DJ, so we are sure you have seen his face around at many of our events! When first moving to Charlotte, he DJ’d at the same club every Friday for 3 months knowing every song that would be played after the next, after the next. That situation was not allowing Chris to take his craft to the next limit, which led him to inquiring with Split Second. Although his mixing was top notch, he still completed our training process to learn how to run a wedding, master his coordination & interaction, and truly learn the SSS way and understand the SSS brand. Chris’ love for spinning started at a gymnasium party 30 years ago. He saw a friend on the turntables, began learning the fundamentals of spinning & creating music, and started his official DJ career in his early 20s. He puts high emphasis on himself on how to not just get guests on the dance floor, but keep them there all night. He pushes himself to entertain by
