DJ Spotlight of the Week- Ben Deese

Ben is the perfect example of a DJ who wanted to be a part of something bigger than just himself. Vinny actually met Ben at a bridal show where he had his own DJ booth setup for his own company. He was not too far from us, so when our team started dancing and having a great time, Ben just could not hold himself back from joining in with us. After some chatting, Vinny asked him how many weddings he is a part of and if he would like to be a part of even more. Ben was instantly intrigued with the SSS success rate, values, and family atmosphere that he knew he wanted to know more about becoming an Exclusive SSS MC/DJ.

After multiple interviews, many months of our training process, and shutting down his own company, Ben was promoted to a Lead in our company. He knew how to mix, but what separates SSS from the rest is more than JUST music. It is the coordination, MC skills, crowd reading, preparation, and so much more. Coming from owning his own DJ business to being a part of the largest DJ company in the Carolinas, Ben has seen how you can grow individually even more by being a part of something larger.

Ben got started in the music business as a kid as he grew up singing and playing an instrument. After college, he started to dive more into sound and then connected sound with his love for music. Ben is very personable, which is a big factor in his success in the industry. He is very energetic as his outgoing personality makes him stand out as a DJ. You can frequently find him dancing behind his DJ booth to the music he plays. He cannot sit still, so Entertainer is the perfect description for him!

Ben enjoys working with A-Team vendors that will communicate with him. He likes a team that knows what they are doing and can make the party epic. Ben defines hard work as pushing forward through adversity and tough challenges to make an event great. He works thoroughly to make each wedding a unique experience for the bride and groom. He says, “I talk with my couples to learn what they are wanting, their tastes in music, and their likes and dislikes. What their expectations of their event is are. Do they want a raging dance party, or do they just want people to sit back and enjoy good music? It is finding the right balance for the couple that portrays the event that they want. I try to help them make it as fun as possible with each of the couples’ unique tastes. Every wedding is different, so for me it is learning the specifics about what the couples don’t want and of course what they do want.”

Ben loves working at SSS. He says, “My favorite part of working at SSS is being able to DJ at so many cool events and be a part of some really cool weddings.” Ben has even helped SSS build the Split Second Agency. The agency gives us the opportunity to entertain at all kinds of events, not just weddings. We offer bands, solo musicians, trios, and even quartets. We are able to help people make their experience better by offering more. Ben embodies top customer service skills to get back to couples instantly for quotes, availability, and even advice when it comes to hiring the best entertainment for your event and needs.

Ben enjoys meeting new people and loves what he does. He is looking forward to building his name within SSS and being a part of a company so instrumental to the music in Charlotte. We are very excited to have him with us and know he will make an impact on our company!

Split Second Sound is now in Asheville NC Full-Time with Chris Bower!

It has happened! Split Second Sound has officially also expanded to Asheville NC full time while still holdin' it down in The Queen City, Charlotte NC! Two cities, same incredible product, and even more unforgettable parties!! Being a part of many weddings in the beautiful city of Asheville as well as providing entertainment for many members of the Biltmore family members’ weddings, expanding to this city has always been a goal of Split Second Sound’s. We are firm believers that in order to bring a dream to life, it takes the right people and best support system. Our Charlotte office runs like a well-oiled machine, and our DJs here are unmatched. We wanted that same dedication, organization, and of course fun for our next city and found that when Chris Bower came along. Chris is originally from Florida but moved to Asheville in early 2018. After getting to know his extensive DJ background, his loving family, and his drive to make a difference with his work,...

DJ Spotlight of the Week - Mike Glass

Mike Glass comes to us at SSS for many years, but has always been involved with music since he was a young boy. He grew up playing the piano and saxophone from elementary to high school, but eventually his brother started a DJ group and he tagged along. He DJ’d his way through high school and college and does not plan on stopping anytime soon. Why give up on such a unique talent that you have such a passion for?! When Mike moved to Charlotte as a teacher, he took a 10K pay cut. He was looking for a way to make extra money and returning to his DJ roots seemed like the best route. Mike says, “I was fortunate enough to respond to an ad and had an opportunity to interview with Vinny. What stuck out to me was the sense of family he portrayed. DJs were sticking with Split for 10 years and beyond. With the crazy egos we DJs can have, you have to be a good person to keep people around that long.” Mike’s flexibility makes him stand out within our company. Mike says, “You can find...

DJ Feature - Joey Verde

He is one of the original four DJs for Split Second Sound. He is in our Elite Series as one of the most requested & reviewed DJs in the company. He speaks Italian fluently and has been a part of many weddings for the same family. He is none other than Long Island native, Joey Verde. Joey’s love for music has been in his system his whole life, but the love turned into a passion when he was 15 years old. While visiting family in Italy, his uncle and a few of his friends started a local radio station. When Joey saw it all in action, he thought it was the coolest thing ever, so his uncle put him on air asking about his visit. The following day, Joey was back to watch the others. On the third day, the DJ on air was smoking a cigarette outside, and the song was about to end, so Joey stepped in to play the next song. One song led to a second and so on. After the fifth day, they decided to put Joey on air as the DJ everyday between 11AM and 1:30PM playing Italian songs along with his A...
